Note: Lois Gross Smiley is a contemporary artist who specialized in landscape, still life and figural painting in in the 1960s-2000s. Born and raised in New York City, Smiley’s artistic training coincided with the emergence of the New York abstract Expressionist and gestural abstraction painting movement. She attended the Dalton School in New York City then studied painting with Vaclav Vytlacil and Rufino Tamayo, before going on to study painting, drawing and art history with Kurt Roesch at Sarah Lawrence College where she received my BA in painting. Smiley taught drawing and painting in New York from 1964-1990, before moving to Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she established a studio. Her work can be found in many private collections and corporate collections.
